JUNE 17, 2023 — Four boats participated in this year’s Three Lights Fiasco: LACERTA, JOLLY DOLPHIN, INTERLUDE, and ÇA IRA.
Traditionally, the fiasco rounds Saunders Point Light, Bloody Point Bar Light, and Thomas Point Light in any order the boat chooses. This year, the fiasco was moved to north of the bridge and boat rounded a combination of lights and lighted buoys: the Baltimore light and buoys G11 and G1UC, for a length of 9.6 nm.
Participants were greeted with 20-25 knot winds. Four boats met at Baltimore Light as planned, although some arrived a little late, and then proceeded to head for the first mark. The wind being too strong, some of the aging crews abandoned the event and sailed off on a more comfortable tack. Kudos to Lacerta who followed the course and kept well ahead of the rest of us.
Special thanks to photographers Eric Moeson who took pictures from his powerboat and Michael Brown of Gallery 564 who sailed aboard ÇA IRA. In 30 years of owning INTERLUDE, Chris White states this was his first time seeing her under sail! Thanks to Eric and Mike, we now have some great action shots of club boats.
After the photo shoot several boats rafted together in Eagle Cove for the evening.
